Victory! Oregon Gov. Brown Directs DOC to Begin Pilot Program

What do you get from signing a petition? Change! We are pleased to announce that Governor Kate Brown has directed the Oregon Department of Corrections to begin a pilot program, which will implement the use of corrugated cardboard pallets. This is an historic moment, which gives national recognition to the benefits that come from making the simple switch from wood to cardboard pallets — including significant reductions in fuel costs, carbon emissions, and wood pallet-related injuries. With this pilot, the precedent has been set and the first step toward reducing carbon emissions on a massive scale has begun.

Change the Pallet would like to extend special thanks to Governor Kate Brown, Representative Julie Parrish, House Speaker Tina Kotek, and DOC Director Colette Peters for their vision and hard work on such an important cause. We'd also like to recognize the Association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers, United Food and Commercial Workers Union, Oregon Environmental Council, Oregon Conservation Network, Green Strategies Inc., IKEA® of Portland, and members of the Oregon Trucking Association for their support and testimony. And of course, thanks to each and every one of you who signed the petition — your time and attention has made a huge difference!
